Majority of the times, industry needs experts, who can provide a sustainable solution to the problems in a shorter period of time irrespective of your approach adopted during the Ph.D., But when it comes to a higher post in R&D, by default recruiters will be looking for people with proven R&D background, and at that time publication (quantitative) will be a parameter to evaluate the candidate's reputation in the field of expertise along with people management. Researchers and lab mates in R. &D laboratories improve the threshold on knowledge satisfaction, patience, structured way of thinking, technical writing and other associated skills to solve/face a problem in a technically matured way.
